Hythe Twinning is back!
Twinning is starting up again after our enforced break. We held a committee meeting today to outline the various events between now and Christmas. First of all, let me tell you what is not happening. As some will be aware the Venetian Fete will not take place this year and the Hopfest in September at Poperinge has been cancelled.
Now let us deal with the positives- our first event will be the Boot Fair on the Green on the 25th July. This requires volunteers for both the early shift (06.30 to 09.30) and the later shift (09.30 to 13.30). Duties vary from collecting money, placing customers or parking cars. Please contact me or any member of the committee to give your availability.
Our next event is the Chairman's Coffee morning at 7 Lower Blackhouse Hill on the morning of the 14th August. All are welcome to share tea, coffee, soft drinks and cakes plus meeting other members.
Towards the end of September, there will be a wine tasting event hosted by our own wine expert Kevin Howell. Date, venue and price have yet to be finalised.
October brings us to the AGM on Wednesday evening 13th at the Town Hall. This event usually concludes with a wine and smelly cheese (provided by our French partners) buffet.
November 14th will be our Remembrance lunch where we are joined by our French partners and it will be held in the Sports Pavilion on South Road. Menu and price to be decided later.
On the 4th December there will be a musical evening at a location to be agreed. This is a repeat of an event cancelled in 2020.
All the above assume that we have a continuous path back to normality, further waves and lockdowns could seriously disrupt it. However, looking on the bright side and further ahead, Hilary and I will see if we can resurrect the 1-day visit to France which was cancelled last year for 2022.
As you can see, despite a late start, we are hoping to get Twinning moving again.
